Back in 2011 when Hardywood started there were only 2 others brewers in the city. The bill allowing breweries to sell their beer to the public was actually signed in this brewery. they now brew in 2 sites across the city. Ingredients for all their beers are sourced locally, and they try to give as much back to the local environment as possible being Virginia first brewery powered entirely by renewable energy.
All the grapefruit comes at you from the first pour, you can just pick up the drying tannin from the green tea used in the brewing process. Very light colour as expected from a classic Kolsh. Clean malt flavours are hidden behind the grapefruit assault, with the tea coming in to finish in a battle in the back of your mouth. thin body and highly carbonated. Perfect for crushing a few at the beach.
